So I'll never forget the things they said that brought a smile to my face, a tear to my eye, joy to my heart, and laughter to the room.

He's Got the Itty Bitty Babies in His Hands

Elizabeth (3 years, 1 months)

While singing and dancing to "He's Got the Whole World In His Hands" Lizzie stopped suddenly after the verse, "He's got the itty bitty babies in his hands..." and said:

"He has ALL of the babies in His hands? He has so many hands?? I only have (she looks down and counts them) two hands. I could only hold two babies!"

Football Play Names

Jonathan (5 years)

Nearly every night when Daniel gets home from work he and the boys go outside and play football on the grassy lot next door. Daniel is the permanent quarterback and the boys take turns being on offense or defense. They take turns huddling with Daddy discussing their next play too. Last night Daniel gave the boys each a template to write out and name a few of their own plays. He gave them an example and called it "Eagle". This morning I noticed Jonathan working on his and I was eager to see what he came up with. I couldn't help but smile when I saw the spellings of his play names. They went as follows:
Cetu
Jagwir
Leprd
Dragin
Dinusr
Elufint
Rinnosris
and Eagle.

I love phonetic spelling in little kids! And in case you're wondering b/c it took me a second to figure out...I think Cetu is his way of writing Cheetah. =)

"You've Got Mail!"

Jonathan (4 years, 11 months)
Aden (6 years, 5 months)

This morning my mom was going about her normal morning business (making coffee, etc.) and her "You've got mail!" noticed chimed from her computer. She didn't pay much attention to it and a couple minutes later Jonathan comes up to her and says, "Here's your newspaper Grandma but you didn't have any mail." A few minutes later the "You've got mail!" noticed chimed again from the computer and this time Aden walked over to the mail slot, saw that no mail had been delivered, returned to my mom and said, "Grandma, I just checked again and you don't have mail?! My mom said, "The mail doesn't come until later in the day." He replied, "Well then how come it keeps saying 'You've got mail?' =)

Climate Change

Jonathan (4 years, 11 months)

Our last visit to California was during a freak cold spell in May 2011 with temperatures in the low-mid 50's. This year (July 2012) our first day in California was a sweltering 106 degrees! As we made our rounds visiting friends in Davis and Dixon (Rosendales, Sheldons, DeJongs) Aden commented that "This was the hottest day EVER!" and Jonathan replied (in a sort of dumb-founded tone), "Yeah, California used to be cold??" Can you tell that the boy lives in the tropics? The notion of changing seasons and/or a range of temps larger than 15-20 degrees is foreign to him!

"Yeah, I know Mary!"

Elizabeth (2 years, 10 months)

This summer the kids attended VBS at Great Grandma's church. On our way to the first day of VBS I was explaining to Lizzie that Mary (Frazier) would be in charge of the program. I asked her if she remembered Mary and she said, "Yeah, I know Mary...her had a little lamb!"

Pink?...or No Pink?

Elizabeth (2 years, 10 months)

While ordering a burger at Red Robin the waitress asked how I wanted it cooked. She said, "Pink?..or no pink?" I responded "Pink." and Elizabeth chimes in (quite excitedly and completely oblivious to the context of the conversation) with, "I want pink, I want pink!"

Golden Dime

Elizabeth (2 years, 10 months)

Lizzie walked up to Daniel and said, "Look Daddy, I found a golden dime!"
and then she showed him a nickle in the palm of her hand. =)
